This year, two teachers were awarded the 'Excellence in Teaching Award', Freya Martinot of Manitoba and Harvinder Nahal of British Columbia. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for all of your hard work!
The 'Distinguished Service Award' was awarded to Dr. Sally Rogow of British Columbia. Dr. Rogow, Professor Emerita at the University of British Columbia, has been working in the field of special education for thirty-five years.
Another big thank you to all of those who bid on and purchased items at our Silent Auction Banquet. Because of your generosity and support, our conference was able to raise almost $5000 for the International Council for Education of People with Visual Impairment (ICEVI). ICEVI is a global association of individuals and organizations that promotes equal access to appropriate education for all children and youth with visual impairment so that they may achieve their full potential. Attendees of the conference were priveleged to hear Larry Campbell, President of ICEVI, speak more on this organization. For more information, visit: ICEVI
Pat Bolger, Carol Gear and Kevin Stewart of Durham/York regions will be co-chairing the next Canadian Vision Teachers Conference in 2011. Looking forward to seeing everyone again in Toronto!
